Swimrun is an exciting sport… and a little unconventional!
And here at Swimrun Australia, we also do things a little differently.
As ‘urban adventure races’, our goal is to make racing on the course as natural and environmentally friendly as possible – think: wild swimming meets trail running meets orienteering.
This will mean that the course will look and feel much different from most events you might’ve participated in, like runs, ocean swims, and triathlons.
The three most important things to know are:
We do not extensively mark the course
Whilst we place some signage on the course, particularly at swim entries and exits, split junctions, and road crossings, it is the participant’s responsibility to know the course.
To ensure you stay on course, we suggest studying the Google Maps course, downloading the GPX file to a smartwatch, and scouting/practising on the course beforehand.
We keep water safety back from swimmers
All swim sections have comprehensive water safety, however, in order to make the swim feel free and open, we ask water safety to maintain visual whilst keeping back from the swim line.
Each participant carries a whistle that can be used to get the attention of the event crew, and gear such as wetsuits and pull buoys aid in safety.
We minimise our environmental footprint
Swimrun Australia strives to deliver events with the least possible impact on our race locations.
There is no littering on the course, and you will need to carry your own collapsible cup to use at hydration stations. Course maps also indicate the location of public water bubblers and toilets.
