DESCRIPTION

A stunning coastal course spanning kilometres of the famed golden sands of the Gold Coast, passing world-renowned surf spots, iconic lifeguard towers and sparkling inland waterways.

Throughout the journey, the iconic Surfers skyline looms large whilst the breaking waves offer the perfect backdrop to a winter sunshine state adventure.

The course has been designed to maximise its coastal location, with ocean swims, surf swims and creek swims breaking up long beach runs and creekside boardwalk detours.

Go on a journey of discovery as we open your eyes to parts of the Gold Coast you didn’t even know existed, you will never see the Goldie quite the same again.

Participate solo in all races or team up in the short and long races that also qualify for Swimrun Australia Series points.

What's it all about?

If you can swim and run, you can swimrun.

Our events boast a fun, encouraging and supportive atmosphere, and with generous completion times, they’re an achievable challenge for everyone!

You do it all

Everyone completes every swim and run section, one after the other, from start to finish.

Teams of two

Racing as a team? The two of you will complete all sections together, side-by-side for the entire race.

Gear can help

Apart from the compulsory gear, you can race with as much or as little gear as you like.

You race in shoes!

There are no transitions, so you'll swim in your shoes and run with your cap and goggles.

Still have questions?

If you know aquathon or run-swim-run, swimrun will be a breeze!

We break it all down and answer all your questions and more on our swimrun basics page. Plus, see our resources section for more swimrun tips.

Athlete & Gear Logistics

As this event has point-to-point races, some logistics must be managed.

Getting yourself to the start

It is the athlete’s responsibility to get to the start at either Rainbow Bay, Currumbin, or Tallebudgera. We suggest getting dropped off or taking an Uber/Taxi, as there is limited parking at these locations.

Getting your gear from the start to the finish

Swimrun Australia will transport your gear from the start to the finish.

Getting yourself back to the start

If you leave a vehicle at the start, it is your responsibility to return to it.

Final timings and more details on logistics will be provided in the Athlete Guide closer to the event.

Meet Ups

Meet Ups are organised pre and post-event to train and get together socially, and are added to the activities schedule as they are developed.

Participation in Meet Ups is optional, and participants are responsible for their safety at all times.

There will be no official safety crew or water safety at these events, and participants should only partake if they have the confidence and ability to do so safely.

Are you a tri club? run club? swim group? surf club? Or are you something in between?

Will your members represent at our events? Will they stand on the podium?

Will you be crowned the club champions!?

This is your chance to stamp your club’s mark on swimrun with overall club domination at each Swimrun Australia event and as the overall winning club for 2024.

How it works

  1. Clubs don’t need to be official. If you’ve got a name and members who meet regularly, you’re a ‘club’
  2. Members add their club name to their entry (contact us if you’ve left it off)
  3. Points are allocated as follows:
    • Mini = 1 point
    • Sprint = 2 points
    • Short = 3 points
    • Long = 4 points
    • Podium finish = 2 points
  4. Double points for the Australian Swimrun Championship event (Sydney North)
  5. A trophy will be awarded to the overall champion club for 2024 (at the completion of all events)

Set up @ event

Bring your club marquee and set up on-site, feel free to fly your flags and make the event your own.

If you’d like to organise something special, contact us

As part of our push to reduce our environmental footprint, Swimrun Australia events now have cup-less aid stations.

Participants will be required to carry their own cup or drink bottle, which can be used at hydration stations and public water taps.

Participants can bring their own or purchase a lightweight collapsible silicone cup with their entry for $10.

The Swimrun Australia-branded 200ml reusable cups squash down flat and can fit into your pocket, clip onto a belt or be tucked into your swimsuit or wetsuit.

There will be other strategies in place to assist with the experience, including super quick refilling UltraSpout dispensers (fills your cup in 2 seconds) and a small number of compostable cups for emergency backup use.

Public water bubblers are available along the course and are marked on the Google Course Maps.

The gear you race in will be determined by whether it is compulsory, recommended, optional, or prohibited.

  • Eligibility

  • Athlete Conduct

The Race Rules take precedence over any other information communicated via the website or other means.

Current Version: 3.0 (As at 22 May 2024)

Swimrun Australia events are designed as urban adventure races. Our goal is to make racing on the course as natural and environmentally friendly as possible.

To achieve this,

We do not extensively mark the course
Whilst we do place some signage on the course, particularly at swim entries and exits, split junctions, and road crossings, it is the participant’s responsibility to know the course.

To stay on course, we suggest studying the Google Maps course, downloading the GPX file to a smartwatch, and scouting/practising on the course beforehand.

We keep water safety back from swimmers
All swim sections have comprehensive water safety, however, in order to make the swim feel free and open, we ask water safety to maintain visual whilst keeping back from the swim line.

Each participant carries a whistle that can be used to get the attention of the event crew, and gear such as wetsuits and pull buoys aid in safety.

We minimise our environmental footprint
Swimrun Australia strives to deliver events with the least possible impact on our race locations.

There is no littering on the course, and participants will need to carry their own collapsible cup to use at hydration stations. Course maps also indicate the location of public water bubblers and toilets.

Earning Points

No-Show (On Event Day)

Participants who do not attend registration and do not race on event day will forfeit their entry and any merchandise associated with their entry.

Any products purchased with an entry can be collected from Swimrun Australia via a self-addressed courier package or on the day by family or friends. Collection by family or friends must be accompanied by an email to Swimrun Australia no later than the day before the event permitting the named party to collect on the athlete’s behalf.

Swimrun Australia delivers complex, niche events with a small team of two. Events are expensive to run, and most non-refundable expenses are borne upfront. The cost to deliver an event is spread amongst a small number of participants, many of whom do not enter until close to race day.

The decisions we make and the risks we take to deliver an event for you are based on the level of entries we receive at certain milestones in the lead-up to the event. This policy ensures we can be confident in our decision-making, pay our suppliers, and ultimately commit to delivering the event.

Our four-week no-refund period is based on when we need to 100% commit to going ahead with the event and ensures explicitly that impending weather is not a factor in participant decision-making.

We constantly review our pricing and delivery model to ensure the best value for participants with a modest return for us, which we then use to develop our events, including creating new exciting events. We also review this policy annually to ensure it is fair and reasonable.

In return, we ask that participants join us on our journey, share a little of the risk, and support us in our vision to ensure that the sport of swimrun survives and thrives in Australia.

Thanks for your understanding and support; we truly appreciate it.

Course Modifications

The course may be changed for safety and/or other reasons before or during the race.

If any swim legs are considered unsafe, one or more of the swims may be removed from the course.

Should it be deemed necessary to remove all the swims from the course due to an unacceptable level of risk, a revised run-only course will become the official course.

If the course is modified, the entry fee shall be non-refundable.

Weather-affected Cancellation

In the event of an event cancellation due to storm, rain, inclement weather, winds, or other Force Majeure conditions (Race Rules, Section 9.2), or where government bodies mandate the event is not permitted to go ahead because of weather-impacted land and/or services, the entry fee shall be non-refundable.
