At Swimrun Australia, we’re proud of our commitment to delivering environmentally-friendly events.
Even though we’re only a tiny operator, we believe we can make an impact and lead the events industry in this space.
Some of our initiatives happen in the background, but there are some that you’ll directly be a part of when you race at one of our events, like our cup-less aid stations, reusable vests and swim caps, and the new finisher pennants we hope will enjoy a longer life.
These balanced initiatives also play a part in helping us to achieve a sustainable business model and keep entry fees reasonable for participants, ensuring a bright future for swimrun in Australia.
You can read about these initiatives below and find out what it means for you when you participate in one of our events.
RE-USABLE VESTS & SWIM CAPS
We’ve had reusable vests for a while now that we wash and dry after each event.
From 2024, participants can reuse their swim caps as we have removed the date and sponsors.
CUP-LESS AID STATIONS
After successful trials at our 2024 Sydney North and Gold Coast events, we will continue not providing single-use paper cups at aid/water stations.
This removes hundreds of paper cups and unsightly rubbish.
LONG-LIFE RACE RECOGNITION
Single-use finisher medals have a very short lifespan (i.e. event day only).
We understand that having something to recognise your achievement is important to many, so we have replaced medals with felt pennants, which we hope will have a longer life displayed on fridges and in the pool room! You can collect the set 🙂
NO SINGLE-USE PLASTIC
We work with suppliers to remove single-use plastic from our procurement process and event packaging. We use reusable stretchies to secure our banners and pair our vests with them.
JUST IN TIME ORDERING, RECYCLING AND REPURPOSING
We aim only to order what we will use for an event and recycle or repurpose what we don’t get to use.
Timber podium medals are sustainably grown and Australian-made.
