DESCRIPTION

Established in 2016, Sydney East was the first swimrun event in Australia and has developed into the largest swimrun festival in Oceania.

A scenic, undulating course that crosses open waterways, national parks, beaches, trails and rock platforms awaits athletes. With beautiful views of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and out over Sydney Harbour and South Head, this is a truly unique experience.

The course has been designed with bite-sized swims and manageable runs making this event the perfect introduction to swimrun for beginners and a fast and technical challenge for those who seek it.

Get your friends and family together, there’s something for everyone. Participate solo in all races or team up in the short and long races.

RACES

Do I need to use all the gear?
How do I swim in my shoes?

Get the answers to these questions and more on our swimrun basics page. Plus, see our resources section for more swimrun tips.

SWIMRUN MINI

2KM | 9 SECTIONS
SWIM 700M, RUN 1.3KM

Ditch the gear and enjoy a miniature barefoot race contained to the beach and bay. You'll complete two circuits and cross through the event hub in the middle to the roaring support of your friends and family.
SOLO

SWIMRUN SPRINT

6KM | 11 SECTIONS
SWIM 1.8KM, RUN 4.2KM

The sprint race is perfect as an introduction to the sport, a fun experience or literally sprinted. Race alone or share the fun with friends as you enjoy the course from Rose Bay to Nielsen Park and back.
SOLO

SWIMRUN SHORT

10.3KM | 13 SECTIONS
SWIM 1.9KM, RUN 8.4KM

The short race is the inbetweener, not a sprint, not a slog. You can race solo or as a team and use the distance as a stepping stone to the long race. A unique feature of this race is the crossing of the Parsley Bay Bridge.
SOLO & TEAM

SWIMRUN LONG

16.4KM | 23 SECTIONS
SWIM 2.7KM, RUN 13.7KM

Raced on Australia's very first swimrun course, the route is long yet achievable, with 22 bite-sized sections from Rose Bay to Watsons Bay and back. Take on the challenge yourself, or team up to race traditionally.
SOLO & TEAM

Graphic maps are not to scale. *Distances are approximate. Swim distances include any wade component. The final course is determined on the morning of the event. View Google Map course for more detail. The course is not extensively marked, participants are required to know the course.

Shark Beach @ Nielsen Park will remain closed during the period of this event so we are unable to include swim legs at this location. It is hoped the beach will be open for our 2025 event and beyond.

Are you a tri club? run club? swim group? surf club? Or are you something in between?

Will your members represent at our events? Will they stand on the podium?

Will you be crowned the club champions!?

This is your chance to stamp your club’s mark on swimrun with overall club domination at each Swimrun Australia event and as the overall winning club for 2024.

The club champion will win breakfast and the ultimate bragging rights!

How it works

  1. Clubs don’t need to be official. If you’ve got a name and members who meet regularly, you’re a ‘club’
  2. Members add their club name to their entry (contact us if you’ve left it off)
  3. Points are allocated as follows:
    • Mini = 1 point
    • Sprint = 2 points
    • Short = 3 points
    • Long = 4 points
    • Podium finish = 2 points
  4. Double points for the Australian Swimrun Championship event (Sydney North)
  5. The winning club at each event will be shouted breakfast from the event BBQ
  6. A trophy will be awarded to the overall champion club for 2024 (at the completion of all events)

Why we have this policy

Swimrun Australia delivers complex, niche events with a team of two. Events are expensive to run, and most non-refundable expenses are borne upfront. The total cost to deliver an event is spread amongst a small number of participants, many of whom do not enter until close to race day.

The decisions we make and the risks we take to deliver an event for you are based on the level of entries we receive at certain milestones in the lead-up to the event. This policy ensures we can be confident in our decision-making, pay our suppliers, and ultimately commit to delivering the event.

We constantly review our pricing and delivery model to ensure the best value for participants with a modest return for us, which we then use to develop our events, including creating new exciting events. We also review this policy annually to ensure it is fair and reasonable.

In return, we ask that participants join us on our journey, share a little of the risk, and support us in our vision to ensure that the sport of swimrun survives and thrives in Australia.

Thanks for your understanding and support; we truly appreciate it.

How you can help us

  • Commit to an event and enter early
  • Tell your friends and family to get involved
  • Spread the word on social media
  • Volunteer at events if you’re not racing
  • Is there a potential event sponsor within your business network?

Join in the fun of swimrun as a volunteer member of our event crew!

Volunteers will receive a meal pack, merchandise, and, if you’re inspired by what you see, a free entry for themselves into a future Swimrun Australia event.

Put your name down on our volunteer list today and we’ll be in touch.
